Day 6 of the Rosaline Sew-Along: Sewing Sleeves

Let’s tackle our sleeves today! Make sure you have either marked or cut small notches for the center and front of the sleeve. Begin by placing your bodice pieces right side up and place you sleeve wrong side up matching the center notch at the shoulder seam.sleeves1Pin at the center sleeve and shoulder seam. sleeves2Add a pin to each side of the sleeve matching them up at the side seams. sleeves3Ease you sleeve cap into the armhole. sleeves4Add pins as you ease your sleeve into place. sleeves5Sew or serge with a 1/2″ seam allowance. sleeves6Repeat the process with the other sleeve.

  1. I had a little trouble with the back side of the sleeve being significantly longer than the front side, even though I lined up the middle notch. I wasn’t sure if I should stretch the shorter side to get it to line up or if I just did something terribly wrong along the way. Any suggestions or ideas on where I might have gone wrong? My seam allowance on the shoulder seam was the recommended 1/2″.

    1. Hi, Suzie! What size were sewing up? It’s shouldn’t be that off. You can stretch it slightly if that will make up the difference or you can try pinning at both sleeve and side seams and easing it the rest of the way in. Let me know if that helps šŸ˜Š
