Now that we have sewn our shoulders together, let’s get to work on our neckline. Today, we will be focusing on the scoop neckline. Start by taking your 1 3/4″ x 28″ strip and pressing in half lengthwise, matching the raw edges. Lay your top/dress right side up and spread flat. Find your center back of the neckline and begin pinning your folded strip with the raw edges matching. Continue pinning around your neckline until your strip matches meets up at the center back, overlap the edges at least a 1/2″. Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance around the perimeter of the neckline, sewing over the center back and back stitching at each end. After sewing cut the excess strip off, being careful not to cut your stitching or fabric. After it’s cut it will look like the picture below: Next trim your seam allowance to 1/8″, be careful to not cut your stitching or fabric. Flip garment to the wrong side and fold over the neckline strip to the wrong side. Pin in place. Sew along the edge *if adding a tag at the back simply pin at the center back under the strip and sew over to secure. Finish sewing around the perimeter of the neckline back stitching at the beginning and end. Turn garment right side out and check out your awesome neckline. That’s it for today!
