My love of the handmade baby gift

OK…maybe more of an obsession not only with giving the gift, but I really enjoy making things for the little babies! Most of the time I try to go with gifts that will be something that the baby will grow into or grow with (like plush blocks, softies, etc.) This time I went with a mix of future and now. I stepped out of my comfort zone to make some things for the soon to be arrival of my friend's baby girl. (As an added bonus, I got my mom in on the crocheting side of things since I have yet to figure that one out!)

For the booties I used this pattern from The Purl Bee. It is really one of my favorite patterns to knit up. The pom-pom hat was a pattern I found on-line here. It was fairly quick to knit up and I think in the future I would use softer yarn maybe… My mom made the little cap and it was a really quick project although I am not sure if the sizing was working out quite right, but it sooo very cute in person! The pattern is found here.

To complete this little gift, I bought some white onesies and added a little cross stitch to them. It was fun to see them stitch up. The patterns are from various sets of The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery patterns. (the deer are from the Woodland Sampler, the ballet slippers from the 12 Days of Christmas, and the aloha girl from The Summer Sampler) This is the first time I used water soluble cross stitch canvas. It was an interesting experience. (*I will get up a tutorial for these later this week!)
